The process of selecting interior and landscape designers for the Decorators’ Show House and Gardens (DSHG) begins the summer before the show house opens to the public the following spring. Designers interested in participating in the DSHG are invited to 2 Open Houses in the summer.
The first Open House in the summer is an opportunity for designers to view and measure the available remodeling spaces that will be contracted with the homeowners. Designers interested in doing a contracted space for the home present a design plan to the homeowners approximately 3 weeks after the Open House at no cost to the Guild or homeowners. The proposed project budget should include the cost for any additional necessary plans or renderings should the homeowner choose to proceed with the project. Designers chosen by the homeowners must have their own committed construction crews.
The second Open House is an opportunity for designers to view the design-only spaces which follow an agreement between the designer and St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild. These non-construction spaces are painted, designed and decorated at no cost to the Guild or homeowners with temporary furnishings and fixtures. Any proposed changes to the space that are permanent or will incur a cost to the homeowner must be pre approved by the homeowner and the Guild.
